TICA Outstanding Cattery MCBFA Breeder Member
ACFA CFA CFF TICA
After 25 years, we are retiring from breeding Maine Coons. We would like to express our best wishes to our past clients - most of you are owners of several Prairiebabies - some of you have even become close friends!
Some of our younger breeding cats are still available to established Catteries with excellent references. Prices are exactly the same as our breeding kitten prices on the contract page. No reductions! Since we are getting out of breeding, we offer the possibility to have the hips done before shippping (at purchaser's cost). Sorry, no additional pictures than what is seen on this website. The slide shows will give plenty of evidence of the excellent quality of these cats. At the moment, Atarath and Aragon (originally planned as our "2012 star pair") are still available, others might be. Note that none of them are available as pets!
My special gratitude goes out to the group of foundation breeders I have been working with over the past decade. The development of new bloodlines for the Maine Coon breed would not have been possible without you! A huge Thank-You to two of my close breeder friends and very special ladies, Phyllis Tobias of Kumskaka and Sheila Haskins of Coonopry.
January 2012: Tigger is looking for a retirement home. Please see "retired breeders" for details.
Our Embargo in Thunder Bay has changed in that we can now ship outside of Canada during winter months!!
I have never seen anybody do a painting upside down.... and on top of that being accompanied by one of my favorite music groups - David Crowder band! This is amazing! Turn on your speakers and enjoy!

Prairiebaby Show News June 2010:
Showing our Polies in Tica!
We had a lot of fun at the June 12 TICA show in Fort Worth, Texas - proudly showing our White Polydactyl male "Aragon" in New Traits class, while having another, long overdue visit with Sheila Haskins of Coonopry! Our F6 boy enjoyed very positive comments from several judges, and we were grateful for the constructive critizism we received. Even a judge who was originally opposed to Polydactyl Maine Coons hung his ribbon! Some of remarks were: "great boning" and "finally some good quality Poly Coons are being shown".
Prairienews May 2010:
People keep asking us what to look for when buying a Maine Coon kitten. There is so much information out there which can sometimes make a search confusing and frustrating. So we added another pargraph to our FAQ page, called "Signs of a good breeder".
Prairienews March 2010:
Working hard to maintain the highest rating for the "TICA Outstanding Cattery" Award, I am proud to say we were rated "Excellent" again!

Coonopry Faith River of Prairiebaby
CFA show January 31/Feb 1 in St. Paul, MN: River did a 2nd BOB and a 10 AB. He got a "second look" from another judge as well. We were only able to attend 4 out of 6 rings because of a mix-up. Needless to say, these results make me very happy. River is a full foundation cat!! He is such a ham - hanging on the cage wall upside down just for the sake of being silly. He made the crowd laugh several times with his clownlike behavior.

CH Coonopry Reflections of Prairiebaby (Lil Brock):
August 16/17 2008 ACFA show in Sioux Falls: BOB, Best All Breed! Lil Brock is a Champion now.
Fabian and I had a lot of fun showing in Sioux Falls on the weekend. What a great City! We spent Sunday afternoon visiting the City Zoo and the Water Fun Park.
Lil Brock really enjoys being shown. At only 9 months of age, he beat 13 whole Maine Coons in one of the rings- some of them much older and some of them already being Grands. Tigger, in the contrary, has a hard time at the show hall, being a 4 year old whole male with not a lot of show experience. Even though some of the judges really like him, we might wait persuing his 3 missing finals until after he can be neutered.
Latest Testing Results (July 2008):
QCH Bogy-cats Xenos of Prairiebaby (Tigger): Tested HCM and PKD negative at 3.9 years

Note: Since we've started showing again in 2008, I was able to talk to breeders here and there at the ACFA shows in my region. What literally shocks me is how few Maine Coon breeders are actually testing for genetic diseases! As far as I remember, 90 % of the people I spoke to never even did a single hip test and most of them only seem to do that Meurs Mutation gene test, and that test is so extremely inadequate for HCM testing! :-( I was told by a friend that it is different in CFA and TICA circles. I really hope that's true!
